I wrote this post a couple of weeks ago, when I got home from these 2 shoots. But because of the sensitivities of Angel’s case, I haven’t been able to post it until now…

Angel & Loki
“I had 2 of the most moving shoots today. Loki, a young staffy, full of life and energy at New Brighton. The weather was amazing and I was beyond the giggling schoolgirl stage when a rainbow appeared and became my backdrop as he leaped through the air catching his favourite ball, it was a really beautiful moment.

Immediately afterwards I met Angel, a gentle old boxer used as a breeding machine for 9 years before being chained up in the yard and forgotten about, along with her brother. They were both fortunate enough to come into the care of K9 Rescue and Rehoming last week. Angel is lucky to have found happiness during what turns out to be her last few days. She is weak, malnourished and wounded from being left on a chain for who knows how long. To make matters worse she is covered in tumours. Tomorrow will be her final day here with us and she will be at peace and be free from suffering. Her brothers fate is yet to be decided after his test results come back from the vet.

Two very different dogs, one at the beginning of his life with a family that love him and another who is at the end of hers, who has finally found peace, good food, a warm bed indoors and got to know love. Both dogs were so trusting of me, a total stranger, coming into their world for a short time and taking their photographs and I am left wondering what makes dogs give their trust to people so easily, even when they have been hurt so badly. Do they sense the good ones who only want to help?

I feel so lucky that I get to see the unconditional love animals give to people every single day and I’m grateful to experience everything that goes along with being an animal lover and pet photographer, no matter how difficult it can be.

So as I sit here with tears of joy and sadness in my eyes, I think of Loki who was leaping from a rainbow this evening and Angel who walks into it tomorrow.”

The team at K9 Rescue put together a slideshow using some of the images I took of Angel.
