Picture this; you’re on a tropical beach where beautiful white sand is sandwiched between coconut trees and the warm waters of the Pacific, the sun is setting and you have six of the loveliest dogs to keep you company. That, ladies and gentlemen, was day two of Barkarica!

Sounds heavenly doesn’t it? The reality of it was so much more spectacular than I can describe. After another day filled with lessons and Marco, the chef’s fantastic food, we headed out for our evening shoot. Once we arrived at Playa Manuel Antonio, we were greeted by the very lovely Holly, who helped find the majority of the weeks canine models via people who had adopted dogs through PAWS – Pets of Aguirre Welfare Shelter, Holy is one of the team running PAWS, a charity rescuing and rehoming dogs in this area of Costa RIca. More about them in part four.

Mickey was the first dog I worked with, this handsome little pup is so named because his beautifully enormous ears remind his family of Mickey Mouse. Mickey had boundless energy, If I remember rightly it was his first trip to the beach.
Energy is something that was definitely not lacking in Romeo, this Boston terrier had endless supplies, he was so bouncy I’m surprised his dad didn’t follow Mickey’s family philosophy and call him Tigger! With a passion for chasing balls like none I’ve seen before, this guy was flying, see for yourself!

It’s inevitable when time is short and there are six dogs, that you can’t ever spend enough time with all of them, but our other four models, Pickles, Spot, Maggie and Franco, were all just as lovely as Mickey and Romeo, I did manage to get shots of them before the sun disappeared and darkness fell.

It’s a tough call, but I think this session might just pip our final shoot to the post as being my favourite of the entire trip.
